Seemingly for the first time, the Bazzite gaming-focused Linux distro has appeared on the Steam Hardware Survey. Well done to the Bazzite team for making such an amazing distro for gaming (and now just general usage as a while too)! Been my main choice for going on a year now for my general use distro, and I haven’t looked back.

That was in response to fedora talking about removing 32 bit packages, but I believe fedora walked that back and so there is no current threat to bazzite shutting down.

They said they’d probably have to if Fedora removed support for 32-bit packages, which was a proposal to the Fedora Community (who rejected the proposal).

Long-term, I imagine Valve will have to bundle a 32-to-64-bit abstraction layer, like they already do with a win-to-linux abstraction layer (Proton), and are preparing to do with an x86-to-ARM abstraction layer.

Distros do not want to each duplicate the work of maintaining 32-bit support for all eternity.

Why Bazzite is not great imo:

        1. Immutable structure creates difficulties for customization (more applicable to desktop systems than handhelds/custom consoles).

        2. Fedora base means potential discontinuation of necessary components and slow package manager.

        Why Arch is better:

        1. Up to date packages without Fedora’s issues.

        2. Support from gaming-related companies such as Valve.

        3. This part was a joke after all.

            • true; although immutable can be easily changed but advised against because the delicate gaming environment

Lag? And discontinuous of stuff like X11 and PulseAudio. They even tried to pass removal of 32 bit packages recently. It may not sound important for 64 bit systems but actually a lot of apps (especially proprietary ones) are in themselves 32 bit.

lag - out of date packages

the discontinuations you said, need to happen, how it happens will be managed well

That’s the thing. Fedora doesn’t manage it well. They just go first.
