I would try it, unless those are bread and butter pickles, then they can screw off.

Pickle pizza isn’t my thing but someone likes it, good for them. Move on and let people enjoy things.

I thought it would be a light/funny crosspost from c/mildlyinteresting cause some people get mildly infuriated by stuff that’s sometimes put on pizzas, but seems like people took it at heart 🫤

PS : I’ve tried pineapple pizza once and it was ok

To be fair, I would be mildly infuriated if I was expecting a pizza with popular toppings and I opened a box to find this.

I didn’t mean to come off as a jerk, I’m just sensitive to the snark that gets thrown around over stupid things like this. I’ve seen those jokey comments about pineapple on pizza turn into personal attacks in real life just because someone was trying to defend a food they think tastes good. Of course the people who did that were “just joking”. Pineapple (or pickles) on pizza isn’t my thing but my girlfriend loves Hawaiian pizza and I’ll happily enjoy the leftovers.

Pineapple pizza really is kinda meh by itself. But, pineapple + jalapeno + a salty/savory topping like pepperoni can be amazing.

Semi-tangential non-sequitor: The news algorithms offered up the recipe for an “Italian treat” recently that had me appalled and curious in the same way I expect pineapple pizza haters are. It was very ripe cantaloupe slices wrapped in prosciutto. I don’t even really know what to say. I just don’t want to be alone in knowing about that monstrosity.

Pickle pizza is my favorite. No joke.

Salty, cheesy, savory. If any of you animals live in Tampa Bay, the New World Brewery sells an amazing one with white cheese.

It’s always fascinating to me how Americans name cheeses by color. I guess white is mozarella? Feta and goat cheeses are also white, but I doubt they go on pizza.

I’ve never heard anyone call mozzarella “white cheese” - the only ones I’m aware of are white versions of non-white cheeses like White Cheddar which is just an undyed cheddar that’s usually aged longer for a stronger taste. Dying cheddar isn’t exclusive to the US so I’m curious if you have a different way to differentiate the two.

If you hear someone say “white cheese,” they’re probably just describing it because they don’t know the name

I didn’t even know there is undyed cheddar. Cheddar is a bit looked down on in my region, as we have very good local cheeses as well as imports from our EU neighbours. I’ve heard americans call Stilton and Gorgonzola “blue cheese”. It’s very confusing; they are different in many ways.

Cheddar cheese is best cheese. The people in your region are weird.

You gotta remember that a lot of these cheeses have those silly PDO restrictions and a lot of our cheese is made domestically (and made quite well! don’t let the ultraprocessed “American Cheese” be your gauge)

So gargonzola is gargonzola, but the exact process done here can’t use the name.

“Blue cheese” is a general term for moldy cheeses - but that’s true elsewhere in the world! I believe it comes from France, Bleu de Gaux? Geaux? Something like that lol

Source: purely anecdotal if I’m being honest - but I’ve been surrounded by cheese my whole life (Midwestern)

Goat’s cheese and caramelised red onion is a good topping. The goat’s cheese doesn’t replace the mozzarella though.

I’m not sure that Wensleydale would work though.

Likely mozzarella or another non-aged cheese with higher fat and hydration for melty goodness. I haven’t been there in years, so, I’m not going to guess what ingredient they’re using.

Goat cheese and feta are fine on pizza, but it’s prepared differently. They’re nice with olive oil and no or low sauce, cured meats, dates, and something to offset and counter the saltiness.

        But go on some more.

One of my go-to orders from the pizza place around here is a Bacon Cheeseburger Pizza.

BBQ sauce, seasoned beef, diced tomatoes, onions, pickles, bacon, and cheddar cheese.

Fucking delicious and I don’t care what purists think.

A burger pizza has a specific taste profile going for it. Just putting pickles on a pizza is weirder. But I’d still try it.

Pineapple is a common ingredient in burgers in Australia and while a classic Aussie burger doesn’t include pickles to go along with that, given pickles are still a common burger ingredient as well, it wouldn’t be totally outside the bounds of plausibility for someone to request or put pickles in there along with the pineapple. They’re ok together. I wouldn’t say it’s the best idea but it’s not a total bust. I’m surprised it’s not a delicious combo which I thought they would be when I tried that once, figured there’d be lots of textural contrast and even more of the salty and sweet and tangy combo that the additional of the pineapple was supposed to bring on its own but alas something about them doesn’t play all that nice together.

I tried one at a brewery once, it had a creamy white dill sauce, pickles and mozzarella. It tasted really good, but what really made it was the dill dough.

Pizza - noun - a dish made typically of flattened bread dough spread with a savory mixture usually including tomatoes and cheese and often other toppings and baked

      -Merriam-Webster Dictionary

That’s what I see here, I don’t see the tomatoes specifically but there’s a lot of cheese that might be covering those tomatoes. Even if there are no tomatoes, the definition uses the term “usually” which is not always.

What constitutes a pizza to you?

I’m fairly sure I tried pickles on pizza and didn’t like it, or maybe I just concluded I wouldn’t because I didn’t think hot pickles would be nice. But that pizza looks damn good.
