i must have missed that episode, i don’t recall a federation currency. i remember non-federation aliens using money and some interactions between federation people and those money using aliens.
I mean the application of gold-pressed latinum in day to day Starfleet and Federation personnel’s transactions and interests on Deep Space Nine due to the Ferengi cultural overlap, because Berman wanted money regularly on the show as a plot point and arranged to make it happen, even contriving a way to make something that couldn’t be replicated so replicators couldn’t just ignore the money’s dubious value.
Lower Decks later, and rightfully, lampshaded that with Boilmer utterly ignoring the pretenses of that currency mattering.

Furthermore, on DS9, money was all but required for civilians and non-Federation residents to get by in their daily lives
How very Rick Berman of Rick Berman, huh?
