I do find a lot of the things they say disingenuous. None of it is unfamiliar - I remember such sentiments expressed by a lot of (white) South Africans, too, back during the nineties… this pretension that there were ever really “two sides” to the conflict.

It’s false. It’s the result of not being able to truly disentangle oneself from the brainwashing and the propaganda one has been fed from birth in a material way, which is perfectly understandable - I had a hard time doing so myself, and the process will never truly be complete despite the fact that the Apartheid-regime had melted away more than twenty years ago.

But I cannot help but feel the need to point out to people such as these that if the Apartheid-regime had turned Soweto into a walled-off open-air prison that they indiscriminately shelled, bombed, generally besieged and blockaded at regular intervals an Oct. 7th style attack by MK would have been entirely justified no matter if white South African civilians were killed in the process.

What would they have been supposed to do? Wait around until punk musicans fixed everything with good vibes?
