Im another 10 or 15 years we’re going to be trying to explain how it was possible to create things just for enjoyment to be part of something, and people will think we’re conspiracy wack jobs for suggesting anything was functional before Googazon made everything we interact with.

Given the context of discussion, not really talking about art, more the trajectory of IT corporations since tech bubble crash. Even that, thankfully, is somewhat hyperbole given Linux and other open software movements and projects.

The online independent art platforms are also facing a lot of pressure in that direction too, between AI and corporate consolidation and fuck up of things like Etsy and patreon. They are trying very hard to control all “consumption”.

In that sense its also awfuly defeatist. The fact that we are here, speaking on non corporate social media is proof of that.

It has big “old man yells at cloud” energy.

People obviously still exist and create art. I struggle to find it without using corporate platforms because independent platforms are hard to find.

One of the main reasons I’m on lemmy.
