Recently stopped caring about removing the shells on shrimp and I just eat them with the shell on.

Does anyone else do this?

No. It absolutely interferes with my enjoyment of shrimp, I don’t want to be interrupted with the crunchy unpleasant skin and tail, no. Take them off and make a shrimp broth, then you keep the flavor and the texture. I hate when the tails are left on in pastas & pilafs or similar. If it’s a shrimp boil I peel them.

No, but I do something similar. I eat corn on the cob without unwrapping the husk.

It never occurred to me that the shells would be edible. I mean, I don’t eat clam or oyster shells.

Your body has a hard time digesting them so it will likely give you a hell of a stomach ache/bad shits if you keep doing that. Just take them off man.

Noted, I haven’t actually experienced any issues personally but I’ll monitor for any abnormalities. Dropping carbs has actually been amazing on my digestive system.

I have only tried eating the tails of fried shrimp but I have never had any stomach issues for years caused by this. It does have the bonus of grossing out my kids when I do it.

I don’t, because it would require a trip to the hospital. Ain’t allergies fun?

But they’re not exactly easy to digest anyway, and how they’re cooked matters to the people I know that do eat them

They can be used for flavoring but I would not eat the shells.

i knew a guy making a million a year by buying shrimp shells from a food processor for practically nothing and grinding them into dust and selling them as protein powder for gym dudes for $40/bottle.

I, too, many years ago got tired of the process of removing shells and now just crush 'em shell on. It’s been about a decade and no issues thus far.

I have been encouraged/peer pressured to eat shrimp with the tails on. I declined and ripped them off.

I’m always worried about cutting my tongue on the shells, though that worry mainly surfaces when eating sushi. They can be sharp, and the tongue does not seem like a fun place for a paper cut.
