Nothing to do with an aardvark - “aard” means “earth”. “Aardvark” translates to “earth pig.”
Earth as in dirt/ground. So Aardvark translates literally to Groundhog.

The aardwolf (Proteles cristatus[3]) is an insectivorous hyaenid species, native to East and Southern Africa.
