I’m about to take a long flight and am looking to expand my music library.

EDIT: Thanks so much, everyone! I’ve got 10.5 hours of music on my new playlist thanks to you all!

The Rumjacks. Irish punk / rock / folk and very good.

The original singer had some issues, and was replaced by another singer with a great voice :)

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. About to release their 27th album and have covered pretty much every genre so no matter what you like, there’s probably a record for you. My favorite is the Flying Yellow Microtonal Banana, full of great tracks, but Billabong Valley has broad appeal.

To each their own. That’s part of what makes KGLW so fascinating. They’re a band that two people with very different musical tastes can both love equally!

King gizzard are exceptional, only downside is that it can be a little intimidating with 27 studio albums to choose from for a first listener! Honestly a good method to pick based on what you like is from their album covers, they do a pretty good job summing up what it’ll sound like imo.

The other way to navigate it is if you get into the storyline of the Gizzverse, the fictional universe that is referenced throughout their songs, but not in chronological order. Trying to piece it together has encouraged me to branch out and listen to albums I otherwise might have ignored.

From what I know, Keeso himself is the guy.

Agreed, some of the best music selection for a show of all time.

Don’t sleep on the Shoresy soundtrack either.

I haven’t gotten to Shoresy yet but yes I hear that. Keeso is a gem, should be on stamps. His performances are just meticulously crafted.

Also I LOVE that they used French Canadian music on the show! It’s so nice to hear. I will start Shoresy soon, just Letterkenny echoing in my head a bit right now. Sometimes I just play the episodes and only listen because I find the dialogue comforting as I work.

Shoresy is incredibly good. You never expect it to have as much heart as it does considering the main character.

It’s just so perfectly selected. Not much music I would normally listen to, but it’s all really lovely to have discovered.

Yup. Very few bad songs too. They’re consistently great. Zionsville is my current high water mark for them. Just gorgeous. I never saw the appeal of the pedal steel guitar until that song.

I don’t think I’ve heard that, gonna check it out. I really like all the stuff they did with Leon Bridges, I wasn’t ever really a fan of that type of like country/r&b or what ever it is until then, but damn those albums/EPs are great.

I tried to go see them open for Toro y Moi one time, and Toro cancelled so it was just them for the whole set and they started just doing hip-hop covers in their style to extend their set and it was hands down one of the best shows I’ve ever been to.

Oh nevermind! Zionsville is on my favorite album they’ve done. I don’t know the track names because I usually just throw on a whole album at once

This will likely be my favorite for a long long time. Just so relaxing.

British band “Jungle” has been in heavy rotation for me the past ~6 months. Specifically watch their music videos and the dance choreography. I suggest playing the entire album “Volcano” as one video.

    Free by Crush 40.

Also, Soul Coughing (El Oso since I only have that single album from them). Specifically Blame, $300, and Pensacola. This is my much more serious answer.

Never heard of him, just googled it and the description sounds similar. I’ll check it out tomorrow as I’m about to go to bed, but thanks for something new to check out!

Synth metal is right up my alley and I’d call Carpenter Brut the king of it.

Few tracks I’d recommend in particular:

          • Hairspray Hurricane

          • Turbo Killer

          • Le Perv

There’s way more than that but that’s a good start. Of his albums, Trilogy is more synth, Leather Teeth is middle, and Leather Terror is more metal, but all of them go extremely hard

Just checked a few of his videos on you tube and I’d say leather teeth is my favorite and the closest to in this moments style.

In this moment leans heavier in the dark/nü metal stuff with a lot more lyrics. The singer has an absolutely angelic voice and then dives deep into a growl and switches back and forth often several times in one song. Her melodic voice is like a sirens call, hypnotizing you. Then she switches and you’re ankles are dragged to hell as she yells at you. It’s fucking amazing and I really hope she doesn’t kill her vocal cords doing that. It’s seriously hauntingly beautiful.

But after checking out a few of those videos, I gotta say thanks for your recommendation, it’s dope AF and I just made a new Pandora station thanks to you. 👍

Update: still listening to it. My kid is gonna fucking love listening to this in my mx-5. This is absolutely our jam. Thanks again.

Glad you like it! I’m curious which singer you are referring to since as far as I know all the vocals in Carpenter Brut songs are via collaboration.

Some other of my favourite songs from him:

              • The Good Old Call

              • Vances De 87 (Carpenter Brut Remix)

              • Lipstick Masquerade

              • MANIAC

              • Looking for Tracy Tzu

Listen to the first song in Trilogy, “Escape from Midwich valley”. It starts out like of slow but the end perfectly sets up the rest of the album as very heavy synth

Be careful driving while listening to CB, driving under the speed limit may be an effort in futility while you listen!

Also, if you listen to Leather Terror, there’s 2 songs in there that have to be played back to back and its unbelievably hard. That would be Day Stalker and Night Prowler. Try listening to them back to back. Night Prowler starts extremely heavy

The singer I was referring to was the singer from In This Moment, which I was comparing carpenter brut to, for reference. But yeah I’m definitely digging it as well as a few other artists I’ve never heard of on this playlist.
