Yeah, the stories can be really great, some of the best in gaming, especially GTA4 and the RDR games, and this is more targeted towards GTA5. But oh man, these games feel so fucking sloppy control wise. I push my controller in one direction for a moment and my character takes like 2 steps in that direction. Aiming feels clunky and you basically have to rely on auto aim. GTA5 is also piss easy. Like, the only reason I have ever died in GTA5 is accidently driving into an explosive or off a ledge.

Everything takes fucking foreverrr to do, especially in RDR2. Like, I get that its impressive how the animations interact with each other and how everything in the fame world is affectes by you, but I dont want to manually pick up every item.

I hope they found someone who can do controls properly for GTA VI.

I usually died in RDR2 because I couldn’t remember how to properly draw my gun. Eventually I got tired of the game. I’d like to go back for the story but I won’t because I can’t remember any of the stupid controls.

    GTA 2 was peak.

To take out your weapon in RDR2 you press the button to shoot your gun. The only way the devs could simplify it further is by permanently bolting the guns to your hand like you’re Daniel Radcliffe.

not true you have to open the radial wheel menu and select the gun you want by holding a button down and dragging the stick in the direction you want and then if you want a variation of that gun or type of gun there is a third button to press

alternatively I believe there is also another button to holster/unholster

For all the downvotes, you don’t have this problem on PC. Getting headshots, even while driving, is crazy easy. It’s very much a controller issue. Mouse and Keyboard controls are very precise.

Jup. I don’t get how people blame devs for not … magically transforming their controller into a mouse? Spawn a PS rifle controller in their hands? Like what do you expect devs to do for making aiming better on the controller? The only thing that helps somewhat is auto-aim, and they have that.

It’s a skill issue too and people don’t want to admit it. Go online in autoaim off mode and there’s a lot less griefers. Because it’s harder to grief if it requires skill. Can’t autoaim at a car driving by and headshot people with zero effort.

I struggle with driving on m&kb. Last time I played I just had a controller off to the side and would switch between them depending on what I was doing.

That’s me too haha. Xbox controller on the side for when I drive. I find the time to get into the car is enough time to grab it and go. I love m&KB for everything but driving.

Alright, you got me there. In my defense, last time I played a Rockstar game was on the PS4, and I hadn’t touched it on PC.

I stopped playing rdr2 pretty quickly because of the movement. And sadly, the same was true in The Witcher 3.

I wish I could play them because I know they have great stories

Oh man, the controls in witcher 3 kicked my ass. I’ve tried to play it 3 seperate times and every time I got frustrated and stopped.

I just can’t handle “realistic” movement in games. I want to be superhuman!

        I got a lot further but didn’t finish GTA5

In full honesty: RDR2 and the like are supposed to be realistic exploration games. Including movements and actions. So they are not for everyone, specifically not those favoring the GoldSrc-like Movement. In my case, I love HL etc. for allowing quick and precise movements that don’t feel like I’m in the scenario, flying through the air and pumping rockets into the Nihilanth, but like I’m a real-life person concentrating all my skill and knowledge to very precisely strafe three jump pads up and into him. And in RDR2 I don’t try to play the game as if I just control the machine, I just let myself go and imagine myself in the scenario.

It’s weird because I dont have a problem with realistic movement in other games. Arma 3 is one of my favorite games of all time, and its very clunky, but it never bothered me to the same extent as GTA or RDR. Dark Souls 2 is also considered clunky but its my favorite of the trilogy.

It is because there is no depth or skill expression in GTA or RDR movement/gunplay, it isn’t about how “realistic or unrealistic” the gameplay is.

I didn’t finish gta5 because there’s a lot of just driving around doing nothing. And then the missions are very restrictive - you pretty much do exactly what it says or you go back to the checkpoint.

I’d rather they were more like Deus Ex or Dishonored (I think those are called immersive Sims now?).

    Also Trevor is just unpleasant

It can be accurate or biting satire, but I didn’t enjoy it. It’s a long game to spend so much time annoyed at a main character.

No issues from my end. The games are fun during the initial story mode, but I don’t care to play multiplayer or just drive around and shoot things. So, once the story is over, I’m pretty much done.

I like a lot about their games except when you need to act in their missions or scripted events. It’s like you’re in church performing a ritual.

Maybe if the underlying sim was not so simple, and they had consistent hooks for their 100s of mission designers to use, the missions and encounters wouldn’t feel like you’re running through a sequence of triggers. Currently it’s like a pre-flight list of actions that are clunky enough that most players stumble over something.

Those games are awful, though. Mainly because of the tank controls. A more modern take on them would be great. Some sort of open world Hotline Miami.

Controls have felt great in every Rockstar game except RDR2, for me. That game was just so mind numbingly slow paced that I absolutely could not complete it.

Controllers are shit. Nothing beats precise keyboard & mouse inputs.

I’ve been playing some shooters online against a bunch of consoleros, and was accused of cheating time and time again simply for being able to aim more precise.

A couple of decades ago Microsoft did some testing to see if they could unify PC and Xbox communities.

They put the top tier controller players against middle range keyboard mouse players.

The bums on the mouse and keyboard beat the living dog shit out of the pros.

Microsoft shoved this all under the carpet and never spoke of it again.

I’ve only played gta4 and 5, but I agree that the mechanics are just pretty blah in general. Every single thing it does (driving, shooting, fighting, etc) is much worse than a game dedicated to those mechanics, so the whole time I was playing I just wished I was instead playing a [racing, 3ps, beat em up] game. It didn’t take me long to quit both of those games.

That said I did play all the way through saints row 3, which had similar issues.

Before GTA4 they made gold for decades. Like most companies once they got big enough they went all in for money, and certian people that used to run the fun stuff left.
