A new study finds that freshwater resources are rapidly disappearing, creating arid “mega” regions and causing sea levels to rise.

“Groundwater drilled by people, used for agriculture or urban supplies and then discarded into drainages now contributes more water to the oceans than melting from each of the world’s largest ice caps.”

    Wow, I had heard of the issue of aquifers being overdrawn and it characterized as being a problem of users running out of water, but the sea level rise aspect is a new one.

    This is another level of waste. It’s so depressing that we as a society have no sense of where the things we use go when we’re done with them.
