Yeah, welcome to IT where you basically have to change jobs every 2 years to get paid what you’re actually worth. Your alternative is either no raise at all or something that amounts to a “COLA” that doesn’t keep up with inflation, and is therefore a passive paycut.
The writer for this story is just trying to send their boss a subtle hint before the upcoming round of performance reviews.

Inflation is just a scape-goat. The issue is a lack of worker bargaining power.
Yep. Best raise I ever got was 5%. Only beat inflation by moving up the ladder or, better, moving companies.
