It’s a substantial article with quotes, data, and context, which uses a clickbait headline to garner engagement because nobody clicks on boring headlines anymore. You could certainly distill the article down to “Manmade dams shifted the Earth’s rotation”, but that doesn’t even get into the “how”. Becky Ferreira gets into the “how” in the article. I understand that the internet has turned into a hellscape of ai-generated clickbait articles, but could we be more careful about throwing that accusation at real articles from real journalists?

I kind of feel like the golden age of “rebooted live service game” is behind us, tbh. We had games like FFXIV and Rainbow Six: Siege that launched rough, but committed to fixing it and then successfully turned it around. In those days, there weren’t many live service games, so people were willing to wait out a possible turnaround. In the time since, we have been absolutely drowning in live-service games, and many of them are free-to-play. Why would I wait for the Splitgate turnaround when there are 3 other live-service f2p shooters that I haven’t even tried yet? If I’m a kid or young adult that came up on Roblox, I might even be content with the shooters built into that platform.

yeahhh sorry didn’t mean to offend anyone, I think I am flip about my word choice because I view the distinction as meaningless on a personal level. I don’t really care if you “chose” to become queer or trans or if you always were and it was just hiding, your queerness is still valid either way! But I am realizing that that some may have strong feelings about the choice of language, and it is important to be respectful on that point.

I can’t speak to Beehaw specifically, but I think lots of folx become queer because they venture into queer spaces as an ally, and then they really enjoy the overwhelmingly friendly vibe, and then they start to wonder about their own gender and sexuality. Speaking mostly from my experience as a cis dude that has frequently questioned his own gender and sexuality over the past decade.

This I think is the real story. This isn’t necessarily about our surveillance state, but more that we are constantly observed by the world and it is a specific type of hell that we cannot escape. The fact that this makes adultery more difficult is a bittersweet benefit, I guess, but there are no guardrails on this sort of thing. If this was in any other context besides a cheating CEO this would all be supremely fucked up, and that’s why I think this is an article worth talking about.
