Truth be told, I hope the democrats don’t waste energy fighting this. Their effort would be much better spent on fighting the tax policies. Suppressors and short barrelled rifles (SBRs) are pretty easy to get if you don’t care about doing things legally. The $200 tax stamp and paperwork mostly serve to make law abiding gun owners’ lives more cumbersome. In the 30s, a $200 fee was basically a ban, these days it’s less than the suppressor itself. Hell America is actually pretty unique in restricting suppressors. They’re legal in many parts of the world because they have more sporting value than criminal value.

That is not accurate as firearm suppressors are regulated in Spain, Russia, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Croatia, Cypress, Belarus and the Benelux countries to name a few.

Yeah true. I didn’t verify that. I know there are several countries with large restrictions on guns but little to no restrictions on suppressors, though. For shooting range or hunting applications, a suppressor is basically a heating safety device.

LiberalGunNut™, didn’t know all that. I thought you just chose a suppressor with the correct threading and hole size for your caliber. Also, is thread locking any different than when installing a bird cage or the like?

Think I disagree of 10 years to catch up. They’re simple devices and I would think it would be easy to spin up production. Probably not for mom-and-pop makers though.

Thank FUCKING god! These laws are stupid for many reasons.

Suppressors protect everyone’s hearing. Also, I’m constantly worried I’m annoying or frightening someone. Dialing back the sound is a benefit for everyone.

Short barreled rifles and shotguns are LESS dangerous. The shorter the barrel, the slower the velocity of the shot. I have a POS derringer that shoots .45LC (.45 bullet, more powder). That fucking thing bounced a round off a wooden pallet at 30’.

The shorter the barrel, the less accurate a weapon is, even at short range. When I carry in the woods I often pack something a full-size, even though it’s a PITA. But I can hit a target with a 5" barrel, can’t hit shit with a 3".

Look, this bill is heinous, but this is at least a single bright spot.

The House bill would remove silencers — called “suppressors” by the gun industry

How to tell me you know nothing about firearms. They’re called suppressors because they aren’t silencers. Firing a pistol with a suppressor is far from silent. It won’t damage your hearing, but it’s only on TV and video games that a pistol with a suppressor is impossible to hear.
